Start with four questions
What is it for?
An emergency, a coming expense and a long-term goal need different plans.
When will you need it?
If you need it soon, avoid depending on selling an asset whose price can fall.
How accessible must it be?
Liquidity means how easily you can recover the money and on what terms.
What loss could you bear?
Separate emergency money before taking risks with other goals.
Four different paths
Interest-bearing savings
Check whether it is a deposit, a fund or another product. An app name does not determine protection. Confirm access, legal entity, fees and GAT (total annual yield), where applicable.
CETES and government securities
You lend to the government through instruments with specific terms. Holding to maturity differs from selling early; check pricing and access.
Market investments
Shares and funds may rise or fall. A platform such as GBM provides access, not a guaranteed return. Check the instrument, costs and risks.
Crowdfunding / peer-to-peer
Platforms such as yotepresto connect lenders and borrowers. Late payments or losses are possible; this is not a bank deposit or instantly available money.
Before moving your savings
- Confirm the legal entity in the contract and its registration with the relevant authority.
- Compare term, withdrawals, costs, taxes and conditions, not just the advertised number.
- Protection depends on the entity and product. A card or app does not imply IPAB coverage.
- Nu, Plata, Klar, DiDi, Mercado Pago and Stori may offer different products. Check each contract; this list is not a ranking or recommendation.
